Mad Cool Festival in Madrid

Mad Cool Festival is a huge Spanish rock, indie and pop music festival, held each summer in the country's sunny capital Madrid. Now one of Europe's most popular music festivals, Mad Cool attracts thousands of music fans from far and wide thanks to its incredible lineups that have in the past featured the Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, Pearl Jam and Tame Impala.

2022 will see Mad Cool celebrate its eagerly anticipated fifth anniversary as it expands to four days in July 2022, once again curating a lineup that'll bring an enviable group of international superstars to Madrid. But while rock giants may headline the main stage, indie and pop favourites are in abundance elsewhere, and a selection of electronic music's hottest acts can also be found.

Having consistently grown in scale – be it the performers, crowds, or production – Mad Cool has quickly found its place among the continent's elite, despite only hosting the first edition in 2016. It now gives well over 100,000 music fans the chance to soak up the Spanish sun and witness their musical heroes doing what they do best.

Madrid lies on the River Manzanares

Madrid is the capital and most populous city of Spain. The city is the second-largest city in the European Union, surpassed only by Berlin in its administrative limits, and its monocentric metropolitan area is the second-largest in the EU, surpassed only by Paris.

Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the centre of both the country and the Community of Madrid region, of which it is also the capital. As the capital city of Spain, seat of government, residence of the Spanish monarch, Madrid is also the political, economic and cultural centre of the country.

The site of modern-day Madrid has been occupied since prehistoric times and there are archaeological remains of the Celtic Carpetani settlement, Roman villas, a Visigoth basilica near the church of Santa María de la Almudena and three Visigoth necropoleis near Casa de Campo, Tetúan and Vicálvaro.
